Jungle’s Edge Coffee Company is family owned and operated. While on a trip to Kona to celebrate their ten-year wedding anniversary, the owners instantly fell in love with the enchanting Island of Hawaii. While touring several Kona coffee farms, they were drawn to the serenity and beauty of the orchards. As scientists, they spent the next year researching every aspect of the coffee industry and eventually took a leap of faith and purchased 18 acres in South Kona backing up to the local Forest Preserve. Teaming up with coffee expert George Yasuda, they created a “park-like” orchard on the slopes of Mauna Loa. Careful to preserve the natural surroundings, planting areas were sculpted around large native Ohia trees which would provide shade as well as homes for the resident animals including turkeys, pheasants and wild pigs.
After nearly a year of clearing and planting, the farm is now home to approximately 7,000 coffee trees. We expect our first harvest in the fall of 2007. In the mean time, enjoy watching the evolution of our farm and be one of the first to try our inaugural offering. |
