Clearing for Jungle's Edge Coffee Estate began in 2005. The land had been cleared and used for cattle ranching decades prior and was sorely overgrown. Careful consideration was given when clearing around native plant species to prevent further disruption of the fragile Hawaiian ecosystem. Coffee was strategically planted under the shade of large Ohia trees. In an effort to participate in reforestation, new seedlings of Ohia, Koa, Sandlewood and other native species are being interplanted among the coffee. Large sections of the property were also left untouched to preserve habitat for the many creatures who call Jungle's Edge home. |
